# Question Library: Pre-Built and Custom Questions for Hiring and Practice

> Bridge Labs question library gives hiring teams and coaches pre-built expert question sets and a fully custom question builder for any role, skill area, or practice scenario.

The questions you ask determine the quality of the signal you get back. That is true whether you are screening candidates for an open role, running a mock interview session for a coaching client, or building a practice program for a student cohort. Bridge Labs question library gives you three ways to build sessions: deploy expert-validated question sets ready to use in seconds, generate questions instantly with Bridge AI using a job description or skill list, or write your own questions from scratch to target exactly the competencies you need.

## Three Ways to Build Questions

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Bridge AI Generation">
    Bridge AI Powered Question Generation creates high-quality interview questions automatically from a job description, a specific skill set, or any topic you define. Instead of writing questions from scratch, you give Bridge AI your inputs and it generates a ready-to-review set in seconds.

    **Three generation methods:**

    * **Job Description:** Paste or upload a job description (PDF or TXT). Bridge AI reads the responsibilities, requirements, and skills and generates role-specific questions that go beyond generic prompts.
    * **Specific Skills:** List the skills you want to assess. Bridge AI generates questions that reveal whether a candidate has hands-on experience with each skill.
    * **Topic:** Enter any subject area. Bridge AI generates questions exploring that topic from multiple angles. Useful for mock interviews, academic assessments, or any session where the focus is a knowledge domain rather than a specific job title.

    **How it works:**

    1. Go to **Questions Library** and click **Create New Question**, then select **Create With Bridge AI**.
    2. Choose your generation method and select a domain.
    3. Enter your prompt or upload your file.
    4. Choose **Video** or **Multiple Choice** as the question type.
    5. Click submit. Bridge AI generates your questions while you wait.
    6. Review, edit, add Key Information tags and Criteria Checks, then save to your library.

  <Tab title="Pre-Built Questions">
    Bridge Labs pre-built question library is curated by hiring and coaching experts and organized by industry, role type, and interview format. Every question set is built around a competency-based framework, which means each question is mapped to a specific, measurable skill or behavior rather than just a general topic area.

    **What you get with pre-built questions:**

    * **Industry-specific sets:** Questions validated for the domains your team hires in or your clients are targeting, from customer-facing roles to technical and professional positions.
    * **Practice and coaching formats:** Pre-built sets designed specifically for mock interview practice, including behavioral question banks, situational interview formats, and competency-based question sets commonly used by real interviewers.
    * **Competency-based design:** Each question targets a defined competency such as communication, problem-solving, or adaptability, so sessions generate structured and comparable data across every person who completes them.
    * **Deployment in seconds:** Browse the library, select a set that fits your role or practice goal, and add it to your session in a single click. No writing, reviewing, or testing required.

    Pre-built questions are the fastest path from idea to live session. If you are under time pressure, hiring for a role your team has not screened before, or coaching a client who needs to prepare quickly for a specific interview format, start here.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Custom Questions">
    When your role or practice scenario has specific requirements that a pre-built set or AI generation does not fully cover, the custom question builder lets you write exactly what you need. Custom questions give you full control over phrasing, focus, and difficulty.

    **What you can do with custom questions:**

    * **Target niche skills or scenarios:** Write questions that probe specific tools, workflows, processes, or situations relevant to the role or the interview the practitioner is preparing for.
    * **Build coaching-specific prompts:** Career coaches can create questions tailored to a client's target company, industry, or known interview style, making practice sessions as specific and realistic as possible.
    * **Design school and program curricula:** Universities and training programs can build question banks that align with their academic programs, career tracks, or industry partnerships.
    * **Reflect organizational culture:** Frame questions in your organization's language and context so candidates get an authentic feel for your company alongside their assessment.
    * **Mix question types:** Combine open-ended behavioral questions, situational prompts, and role-specific technical questions in a single session.
    * **Full configuration control:** Set individual time limits, retake allowances, and written instructions for each question just as you would for pre-built questions.

    Custom questions work best when you have a clear picture of the competencies or scenarios you want to address and need to go deeper than a general framework allows.

<Tip>
  The strongest sessions combine all three approaches. Use Bridge AI to generate a first draft from your job description, swap in pre-built competency questions for standardized baseline coverage, then add one or two custom questions to probe the role-specific details that make your session unique.

## Key Information and Criteria Checks

Every question in Bridge Labs supports two AI inputs that drive scoring and analysis: **Key Information** tags and **Criteria Checks**. These work the same whether you generated the question with Bridge AI, pulled it from the pre-built library, or wrote it yourself.

* **Key Information:** Phrases, keywords, or concepts a strong answer should include. The AI scans each candidate's transcript for these terms and uses them to calculate the question score.
* **Criteria Checks:** A checklist of specific behaviors or content elements that define what an excellent answer looks like. Click **Generate Criteria Checks** to have Bridge AI suggest criteria based on your question text and Key Information tags, or write your own.

## Question Configuration Options

Every question in Bridge Labs supports the same configuration options regardless of how it was created.

### Time Limits

Set a maximum recording time for each question individually. Shorter limits work well for quick factual or situational questions. Longer limits give people room to demonstrate reasoning on complex problems. For mock interview practice, setting realistic time limits helps practitioners get used to the actual pressure of answering on a clock.

### Retake Limits

Decide how many times someone can re-record their answer before submitting. For hiring, allowing one or two retakes reduces performance anxiety and gives candidates a fairer chance to express themselves. For mock interview practice and coaching sessions, retakes let practitioners iterate on their answers and build confidence through repetition. Setting retakes to zero creates a higher-pressure environment appropriate for certain roles or advanced-stage practice.

### Candidate Instructions

Add written instructions to any question to provide context, clarify what you are looking for, or set the scene for a situational prompt. Instructions appear on screen before recording begins. For practice sessions, instructions can set the scenario, specify the interviewer persona, or give the practitioner specific guidance on what the AI will be evaluating.

## Building Your Session

To create a session using the question library, go to **Interviews** in your Bridge Labs dashboard, select **Create Interview**, and open the **Questions** step. Generate questions with Bridge AI, browse pre-built sets, or switch to the custom question editor. Arrange questions in the order you want and configure each question's settings. Your session is ready to share.
